let's make it better
Beliefs
- I believe Technology is detrimental to our thinking and focus, tempting us "down-the-rabbit-hole" with endlessly scrolling entertainment, while shortening our attention span and making us lazy thinkers.
- I believe Money solves fewer problems than people think.
- I believe Scientists should set some limits on what they explore: i.e. human cloning, editing embryos to make designer babies, biological weapons, de-extinction, brain-computer merging, algorithms that predict criminality, etc.
- I believe Each person should take responsibility for their own health. We can choose to have better health, if not perfect health, through our lifestyle choices. Doctors should be our partners in optimizing our health.
- I believe Through data collection, AI can erode privacy and autonomy, leaving us open to manipulation by corporations and governments.
- I believe It is impossible to stop wars because conflict is an integral part of human nature.
- I believe Teachers are undervalued in our society. Their role in instilling values, confidence, and problem-solving in the next generation is critical. Teachers should be compensated according to their value.
Questions
- Do you believe that educators want to encourage independent thinking? Isn't the education system skewed towards students getting good grades by rote learning?
- So how can we (society) encourage thinking so that the majority of people are thoughtful and engaged?
- Based on the results of the last election, do you really believe that the future belongs to those who think???
- Do you think that repeatedly and calmly stating the truth is an antidote against rage? Or does "truth" no longer exist in this era of "fake news" and lies that are repeated ad nauseam?
- What do you think can be done about it?
- So how do you account for the reformers who then set up their own regimented version of religion?
- Do you have any ideas for how an off-ramp could be created to de-escalate AI competition?
- Is it "competition" between rival countries and companies that keep us on this rabid path to this unknown and unknowable future?
- It seems that women are just as likely as men to lead their countries into war. Do you believe that women, by nature, are more collaborative and conciliatory?
- Do you believe that people can be easily led into evil simply by associating with the "wrong" crowd? Are we more easily influenced towards evil than towards good?
- Science is evolving so quickly, especially now with the aid of AI, who do you think is treating it as unquestionable truth? Even the "average man" must see the rapid evolution of science affecting their own lives.
- So how do you account for the many reformers who broke from dogmatic religion to form new avenues of spirituality?
- Although your premise sounds logical, how would it be implemented? Taxing the robotics makers? Taxing the companies who use the robots?
- Although TruTalk may encourage understanding, can it truly lead to the type of power that can counteract the current trend towards facism?
- Do you really believe the behavior we see in our leaders today can lead to a cut in global emissions? I would be greatly surprised.
- As a retired person I find my days are busier now than ever! I wish I had more time to do those things that are self-fulfilling! What do you think of the option of universal income? Is it something society should aim for given that AI will be putting so many people out of work?
- My daughter has been recently promoted to Global Head of Production for a major corporation. She has been working remotely ever since Covid. She has received multiple raises and promotions and exceptional performance reviews. She is a great example of the how remote employment can benefit both the worker and the institution. Why do you think she should have to uproot her family and move across the country to work at the company's headquarters when obviously she is doing outstanding work remotely?
- I recently watched a show that outlined two scenarios: one - AI will eliminate humankind (easily done by releasing a killing virus), or two - humankind will slow down the development of AI and make it more controllable and cooperative. Which do you think is more likely, and why?
- But hasn't human judgment already been exposed as inconsistent, emotional, and biased - before AI was even invented?
- Can someone disagree with a solution without becoming part of the problem?
- Are young people emotionally ready to grapple with the moral weight of historical events?
- In what situations do you think AI is most likely to reveal human inconsistency?
- Aren't a lot of those controlled by people? So in effect, people are in control?
- If gut bacteria are controlling human decision-making, then who or what is controlling gut bacteria?
- But doesn't mind set have to lead to actions? Eating less sugar? Getting more exercise?
- So what are examples of democrats being greater risk takers?
- Then why are they engaged in such a risky, world-alterating shift in the economy?
- Would that be applied to everyone, or just younger children, who are known to be harmed?
- But doesn't religion also have it's good side? Charity, moral behavior, disaster relief?
